Classes I
periodically teach classes at the Foothills Act Center located in
Golden, Colorado. The Classes vary from beginner to advanced and
mostly cover use of digital cameras, post-processing, printing, and
presentation. Current class offerings can be found at the Foothills Art Center website.
Classes planned for 2012 include: How do I Use My Digital Camera? A one-day workshop Class Description: This class
will improve your knowledge and usage of your current camera(s), from cell
phones, point-and-shoot, to DSLR. Topics include camera selection for your
intended usage, basic and advanced camera functions, options for downloading,
viewing and saving digital photos, obtaining custom prints from your local
store, and discussion of free and inexpensive photo management and editing
programs. Class participants should
bring their own cameras to learn how to use their equipment more effectively.
Introduction to Digital Photography An evening workshop over four weeks Each week this class will present new topics
for in-depth discussion and demonstration starting with digital camera types
and selection for your intended usage.
Follow-on topics include downloading and storing your digital files,
basic photo editing, High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography, best methods for
digitizing your old film negatives and prints, creative photo techniques, home
printing options, and obtaining custom prints. Methods for exhibiting your work,
making a digital slide show, creating a personal photo book, and uploading to
the internet will also be discussed.
Digital Photography for Artists A one-day workshop This class covers digital photography skills
that support the creative artist. Topics
include: selection and use of cameras and equipment; how to use your camera to
capture subjects to aid your creative art process (painting, sculpture, etc.);
making photographic copies of your art; making a photographic portfolio of your
work; preparing photo files for exhibition submission; and making limited-edition
large-size prints of your copied art. The class will work with the artist's own
cameras to demonstrate and make digital copies of selected art work brought to
class by students.
Secrets to Using your iPhone / Cell Phone Camera (or How to have Fun with your Cell Phone) A one-day workshop Since you always carry your cell phone, why not
learn to use its full potential. Topics include: how good are the cameras
in current cell phones (they can be quite good); should I upgrade my cell
phone for one with a better camera; best photo apps for cell phones and
iPads/tablets; using the free cloud service offered for most phones;
transferring photos/files to your computer, iPad or other tablet; shooting videos;
editing images and special effects; sharing images; and much more. Bring
your cell phone and a notebook and learn to have fun and be creative.
